Our white unisex long-sleeved t-shirt features stylised elements of the iconic LSHTM seal on the back, the palm tree from the seal on the front, and ‘LSHTM’ written along the left sleeve.
The seal appears in our logo and is carved in stone above the entrance to our grade II listed building on Keppel Street in London. The design of the seal is based on a coin struck in 466 BC showing two Greek gods associated with health - Apollo, the god of prophecy, music and medicine, and his sister Artemis, goddess of hunting and chastity, and comforter of women in childbirth. Artemis is driving them in a horse-drawn chariot while her brother is shooting healing arrows. Above them is a fruitful date palm and beneath is a staff entwined with a snake (a symbol of the medical professions).
